A recent report by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), covering data from 188 countries, determined that 30% of the world’s population is overweight or obese. That’s 2.1 BILLION people, and growing. Obesity is a threat to public health because it leads to diabetes, heart disease, and higher rates of cancer.
According to IHME,
“The rise in global obesity rates over the last three decades has been substantial and widespread, presenting a major public health epidemic in both the developed and the developing world.” Read more…
For the first time in human history, more people are going to die from over-eating than they will from malnutrition. This is simply sad. The world has traded common sense eating for the convenience of packaged and prepared foods, refined carbs, and a westernized diet of burgers, cola, and fries.
We must turn this around!
