Take the “Sodabriety” Challenge

Teen drinking water

Teens in Ohio who took a 30-day challenge to reduce their consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks not only reduced their intake, but also substantially increased their water consumption. Working together to create awareness campaigns and a can-do atmosphere in their high-schools contributed to peer pressure in the right direction. These are the conclusions of a study conducted by Ohio State University researchers.

Sugary drinks are a major problem. 80% of teens consume them daily – accounting for up to one quarter of their caloric intake! Read more about the Ohio intervention here.

Maybe it can work in your kids’ school as well?

My last soda was June 16th, 2013 and I’ve never felt better! I drink over a half gallon of water a day and have more energy then any soda could ever give me.

I have always struggled with drinking water until I had gallstones. now I drink more water but still I don’t drink 8 glasses of water a day. I used to drink a lot a whole milk but now I can’t after the gallbladder removal I drink almond milk now still struggling with the water though

Awesome idea! Keep in mind that some “bottled” water is “enhanced” and should be avoided as well. It was my niece that lost over 60 pounds that gave me the heads-up on the “enhanced waters”.

p.s. Hopefully soon, school districts will be able to offer water and/or access to clean, clear, pure water as a beverage choice with the chocolate milk. School districts won’t be reimbursed by the Federal Government if water is offered as a beverage choice because, “there’s no nutritional value in water.” Our high school daughter doesn’t drink cow’s milk and “had to choose” one of the cartons and would throw it in the trash.

If you still want the bubbles stick with a fermented beverage such as water kefir or kombucha.
