Capitalizing on the Greek yogurt trend, Safeway has released a new product under the “Snack Artist” brand. Unfortunately, these Greek Yogurt Covered Raisins are about as far from healthy as Greece is from Pleasanton California, Safeway’s headquarters.
As you may recall, yogurt is not a solid. To make it cling to raisins, you need to mix it with partially hydrogenated oil and sugar. Yes, heart-clogging trans-fatty oil.
And sugar. Because raisins aren’t sweet enough. Here is a picture of the ingredient list:
Raisins are a healthy snack. So is yogurt, whether it is Greek or not, but the product Safeway is trying to peddle to unwary consumers is simply an abomination.
Here’s a revolutionary snack idea: How about tossing a handful of raisins into a plain yogurt?
