Monday, October 24th is Food Day.
The 6 FOOD DAY PRINCIPLES include the reduction of diet-related disease by promoting safe, healthy foods and promoting health by curbing junk-food marketing to kids.
Across the nation, hundreds of community events will celebrate and educate people about the joy and benefits of real food. Check out the interactive on the Food Day website to find something tasty and important to do in your neighborhood.
Food Day is organized by the Center for Science in the Public Interest and is supported by food and nutrition luminaries such as Michael Pollan, Marion Nestle, Alice Waters, Former FDA commissioner David Kessler, and many others.
To our readers in the San Francisco Bay Area:
Fooducate founder Hemi Weingarten will be conducting a supermarket tour on Food Day. (In case there was any doubt, this is free!)
- Walk through the aisles and learn how to read a nutrition label and ingredient lists.
- Learn about food marketing tricks and nutrition labeling loopholes.
- See that buying healthy food is not as expensive as you’d think.
When: Monday Oct 24, 2 pm (estimated 40 minutes)
Where: Safeway in Foster City - 921 East Hillsdale Boulevard, Foster City, CA (map). We’ll meet at the entrance to the Supermarket. Look for the guy with the Fooducate T-shirt.
