Does Your Microwave Have a “Heat Junk Food” Button?

Appliance makers must be working with the food industry to make our lives as easy as, well, pushing a button. The microwave pictured above has a setting for “Chicken Nuggets” [conveniently to the left of the start button] . What can be simpler than picking up a bag of frozen fake food, tossing it into the machine, and not even having to worry about the timer setting.

Life is good. NOT.

(Thanks Michael)

have you seen the movie “idiocracy”? this is exhibit A that it’s happening in real life!

Oh, that’s awful. We don’t even have a microwave anymore. When I read a) that you can kill a houseplant by microwaving the water and allowing it to cool and then using that to water it and b) that you can kill any living organisms in a seashell (to avoid any unwanted odors) by microwaving it for a few minutes, I decided it probably wasn’t good for my food either. We don’t miss it!

You act like there can’t possibly be any chicken nugget made with actual chicken. I find that hard to believe. So if you’re heating up an actual chunk of chicken, what do you care of there’s a button on the microwave for it?

What difference does it make to which side of the Start button it is? You’re just being snarky for no reason, with no basis. As if buttons to the left are more evil than buttons to the right or something. Sometimes y’all get too holier-than-thou and snooty.

MOST chicken nuggets are made of nasty stuff and people feed them all the time to their kids, which isn’t the healthiest thing to do. They are trying to point out that the nugget button is promoting unhealthy eating. Want more obese kids running around? I sure as heck don’t.

Really? I’m going to go out and start buying chicken nuggets (which I’ve never bought in my life) because my microwave has a button for it? That’s like saying, my oven can be set to the temperature to bake cookies, so that’s all it’s telling me to eat.

I agree that people need to eat real, whole foods, especially children because those habits will be with them for the rest of their lives. (I’m battling the habits I developed as a child, and I don’t wish it on anyone else.) It’s the marketing that goes into those nasty “chicken” nuggets and a food culture that has taken us away from eating actual food that promotes unhealthy eating, not a button on a microwave.

Theres no such thing a real piece of chicken. They are all filled with nasty chemicals, bacteria and drugs…not to mention when chicken is being processed it gets a nice bath which the factory workers like to call “fetal soup” Yum! The only chicken I would consider eating if I did way meat would be from a family owned farm that had no problem showing me around their farm…Factory farms don’t let you in and don’t even want you near the facility. Kinda fishy don’t ya think. As for microwaves they do nothing but zap all the nutrients out of your food! Please tell me what’s the point in even using one? I proud to say I got rid of mine….more counter space to prepare “real” food! And I couldn’t be happier :D

I love seeing the foods that microwaves have buttons for. I saw one once that had “Polish Sausage” and “Baked Potato” as options. They never actually work though. I made the mistake of hitting the “Popcorn” button and walking away. The popcorn was so burnt the microwave smelled like it for weeks.

I love how it is so specific. Shouldn’t they also have Hot Pockets or a Lean Cuisine button?

Wow. I wonder what quick heat button they will add to the zapping machine next.

As a species, we are doomed.

My microwave has the following buttons: Potato, Beverage, Boil Water, Fresh Vegetables, Frozen Dinner, Pizza Reheat, Bacon, Baby Food, Soften Ice Cream. Then there are three more multipurpose buttons: “Handy Helper” (Melt Chocolate, Soften Cream Cheese, or Melt Butter), “Kids Meals” (Chicken Nuggets, Hot Dogs, French Fries, or Frozen Sandwich), and “Snack Bar” (Nachos, Chicken Wings, Potato Skins, or Cheese Sticks). Finally, there’s a Popcorn button at the top.

I try not to feel paralyzed with all those choices…it helps that I never eat most of these things.

That’s not a microwave, it’s an *oven*! Note the bake, broil, convect…we actually have this. (Didn’t pick it out ourselves…) The matching microwave has many, many more auto junk food buttons.
