Matzah, the World’s First Ever Fast Food

This evening marks the beginning of the 8 day Jewish holiday known as Passover. As with any holiday, there are specific foods associated with Passover. One of them is Matzah, a flatbread made with only 2 ingredients – water and flour.
Matzah is the first ever fast food in history, at least according to biblical stories: After getting God to beat up on Pharaoh, the Jewish people were in a rush to flee Ancient Egypt. In their haste, they did not have time to prepare a proper sandwich. They didn’t even have time to let the dough rise before baking their bread. So they mixed flour with water and threw it in the stove.
The resulting matzah was the grab and go choice for families on the run, commemorated to this day, thousands of years later.
Will the Big-Mac be celebrated as well in 3000 years?
What you need to know:
A single matzah square is about one ounce in weight and counts as a serving. It runs about 100 calories. The whole wheat version contains 4 grams of fiber (16% of your daily value) vs. just 2 grams for the regular brand.
What to do at the supermarket:
Since both versions taste more or less like cardboard, this Passover go for whole wheat.
